Usually all the monosaccharides have reducing properties. However in Disaccharides,Sucrose is not a reducing sugar. Because sucrose is a composition of GLucose and Fructose linked together by  α (1-2)Glycosidic bond,and it does not have free aldehyde or ketone group. ESTIMATION OF REDUCING SUGARS BY DNS METHOD:- DNS stands for 3,5 Dinitrosalicylic acid. When reducing sugars are treated with DNSA in boiling water bath for specific time(10 minutes at 100 ° C ), 3,5 DInitrosalicylic acid is converted into 3 Amino 5 Nitro Salicylic acid which has characteristic Yellow colour.
