ALGAE

HABITATS OF ALGAE

  1. Every organism depends on water. There are two main forms of algae: Macro algae (seaweeds), which are present in the littoral zone which includes green, brown, and red algae, and microalgae, which are distributed throughout the ocean waters in both bentheic and littoral environments grown as phytoplankton. They appear in a variety of shapes and colours. Algal blooms are distinguished by a prominent coloration of water due to a huge number of pigmented algae cells, which are known to be mostly made up of bio-toxins. Green, red, brown, and yellow are among the colours. Cyanobacteria (blue-green algae) and red tides are the two main forms of algal blooms (red algal blooms).
  2. These organisms can breed in freshwater lakes and saltwater waters.
  3. It can also withstand different temperatures, oxygen or carbon dioxide concentrations, acidity, and turbidity.
  4. For example, according to algae, giant kelp is found more than 200 meters below the polar ice sheet, while the unicellular green algae Dunaliella salina is found in very salty or high-salt environments such as the Dead Sea.
  5. Plankton are floating, mostly unicellular algae, living in the water.
  6. The algae that adhere to the surface are called benthic algae.
  7. Such algae grow on mud, rocks, other algae, and plants and animals.
  8. Algae can survive on land.
  9. Some unexpected places where they grow are the ground, including tree trunks, animal fur, snow banks, hot springs, and desert crust.
  10. can also live in symbiotic relationships with a variety of non-photosynthetic organisms such as ciliates, sponges, mollusks, and fungi.
  11. Green algae have underlying processes that are poorly understood, including the impacted molecular parts of the photosynthesis. To further understand the molecular processes underlying the physiology of these species under desiccationstress, contemporary techniques based on transcriptomics, proteomics, and/or metabolomics are highly required. The ecology and evolution of practically all species on Earth have been significantly impacted by the recurring development of multicellularity across the tree of life. Numerous of these beginnings were found in various classes of photosynthetic algae, or eukaryotes.
