TYPES OF BIOTECHNOLOGY

There are many types of biotechnology developed in following days.
but there are 4 main types of Biotechnology
  • Medical Biotechnology
  • Agricultural Biotechnology
  • Industrial Biotechnology
  • Marine Biotechnology

1. MEDICAL BIOTECHNOLOGY

Medical Biotechnology is a branch of medicine that uses living cells and cell materials to research and then produce pharmaceutical and diagnosing products. These products help to treat and prevent diseases.
Eg:- Ebola vaccine,Mapping human DNA,CRISPR- cas9.
Some of the most recent uses of Biological tech is working genetic testing,Drug treatments, and artificial tissue growth. With the many things to determine and regulate when it comes to this fast-paced industry.

2.AGRICULTURAL BIOTECHNOLOGY

Agricultural Biotechnology is a branch that deals with a range of tools, including traditional breeding techniques, that alter living organisms, or parts of organisms, to make or modify products; improve plants or animals; or develop microorganisms for specific agricultural uses. Modern biotechnology today includes the tools of genetic engineering.
Bt crops: Crops that are genetically engineered to carry a gene from the soil bacterium Bacillus thuringiensis (Bt). The bacterium produces proteins that are toxic to some pests but non-toxic to humans and other mammals. Crops containing the Bt gene are able to produce this toxin, thereby providing protection for the plant. Bt corn and Bt cotton are examples of commercially available Bt crops.
Bacillus thuringiensis (Bt): A soil bacterium that produces toxins that are deadly to some pests. The ability to produce Bt toxins has been engineered into some crops. See Bt crops.

3.INDUSTRIAL BIOTECHNOLOGY

Industrial Biotechnology or white biotechnology is the application of biotechnology for the industrial processing and production of chemicals, materials and fuels. It includes the practice of using microorganisms or components of micro-organisms like enzymes to generate industrially useful products in a more efficient way (e.g. less energy use, or less by-products), or generate substances and chemical building blocks with specific capabilities that conventional petrochemical processes cannot provide.
Biotechnological processing uses enzymes and microorganisms to produce products that are useful to a broad range of industrial sectors, including chemical and pharmaceutical, human and animal nutrition, pulp and paper, textiles, energy, materials and polymers, using renewable raw materials.

4.MARINE BIOTECHNOLOGY

Marine biotechnology is the creation of products and processes from marine organisms through the application of biotechnology, molecular and cell biology, and bioinformatics. It is the field of science that deals with ocean exploration for development of new pharmaceutical drugs, chemical products, enzymes, and other products and processes. It also deals with the advancement of aquaculture and seafood safety, bioremediation, biofuels, among others.
everal fishes do not spawn spontaneously when placed under captive conditions. In the past, fish gonadotropin, a group of hormones that stimulate reproduction, were produced in small amounts by extraction and purification from crude preparations of thousands of pituitary glands. At present, large quantities of highly purified gonadotropin can be produced in the laboratory through recombinant DNA technology.
